The texture is what makes it work. A flat white pot reads as a blank against a pale wall; a textured one catches raking light from a window or a floor lamp and holds a low relief that shifts through the day, so the planter registers as an object rather than a container.

Fibreglass carries that surface without the weight of stone or concrete, which is what keeps the 42cm size practical on a timber floor or a rug.

Which size for which plant

Proportion first. On a compact, full plant the pot should account for roughly a third of the height you see — pot plus foliage — so the arrangement reads settled rather than top-heavy. On a tall slim tree the width does more work than the height: the pot needs to look wide enough to hold the root ball.

The Large, 42cm across and 40cm high, is a floor pot. It takes a 180–200cm tree — a fiddle-leaf fig, a bird of paradise, an olive — and the diameter is generous enough for a multi-stem or a plant that has outgrown a 30cm nursery pot. The Medium, 30cm across and 32cm high, pairs with a plant around 120cm such as a monstera or a rubber plant, on the floor or on a low console. The Small, 21cm across and 23cm high, is a tabletop size for a 50–70cm plant — a fern, a trailing pothos — and belongs somewhere you pass close enough to read the surface: a desk, a shelf, the end of a dining sideboard. Taken as a set, the jump from 21cm to 42cm is wide enough that the three read as graduated rather than repeated; keep them on the same surface and close enough that the diameters step.

Living with a textured surface

A textured surface behaves differently from a smooth one. Dust settles into it rather than sitting on top, so a dry soft brush, or a cloth worked into the surface rather than wiped flat across it, does more than a quick pass. Beyond that the care is the same as any fibreglass piece: the white finish sits on the surface of the composite, so scourers and solvents will dull it and a hard knock against tile or masonry can chip the rim. The simplest way to plant it is to leave the plant in its nursery pot, drop that inside, and lift the whole thing out when you water.
