Console Mirrors — The Pairing That Makes an Entrance

A console table without a mirror above it is a job half-finished. Together they form the classic entryway composition: the console grounds the wall, the mirror lifts it, and the pairing greets everyone who walks through the door. This collection is curated specifically for that job — mirrors proportioned, styled and finished to sit above a console, in the hallway, the entry, or behind the sofa.

Pair with: console tables | marble console tables | a lamp | table décor | ginger jars & vases | wall art | canvas art.

Visit our Melbourne showrooms or Sydney showroom to see complete console-and-mirror pairings styled in person. Open 7 days, no appointment needed.

The Rules of the Console + Mirror Pairing

Width: The mirror should be roughly two-thirds the width of the console — never wider than the console itself. A 120cm console suits a mirror around 75–85cm wide; a 150cm console carries up to 100cm.

Height and gap: Leave 15–25cm of wall between the console top and the mirror's bottom edge. This gap is what makes the pairing look intentional — too close and it crowds; too far and they read as two unrelated pieces.

Shape: Arched and round mirrors soften a rectangular console and suit traditional and Hamptons interiors. Rectangular mirrors echo the console's lines for a cleaner, more architectural look.

Finish: Match or deliberately contrast. A gold-framed mirror above a gold-frame marble console is polished and cohesive; a black mirror above a light console is confident contrast. Avoid near-misses — two golds that almost match look accidental.

Prefer Art Over a Mirror?

A statement canvas or sculptural wall art works on the same rules — two-thirds the console's width, 15–25cm gap. Choose a mirror when the hallway needs light and depth; choose wall art or a large canvas when the space already has light and needs colour and personality instead. Many of our customers pair a mirror in the entry with art above the sofa console.

Styling the Console Beneath

Work in a triangle: a lamp or tall vase at one end, a stack of decorative books or a low object at the other, and something small mid-way. Keep the middle third of the console relatively clear so the mirror — and whoever's checking their reflection — has breathing room.

Frequently Asked Questions — Console Mirrors

What size mirror goes above a 120cm console table?
Around 75–85cm wide — roughly two-thirds of the console width. Centre it on the console, not the wall, if the two differ.

Should the mirror be wider than the console?
No. A mirror wider than the console below it looks top-heavy. When in doubt, size down and let the wall frame the pairing.

Can I use a console mirror in rooms other than the entryway?
Absolutely — the same pairing works behind a sofa, in a dining room, or as a dressing station in the bedroom. Anywhere a console fits, its mirror follows.

Are these mirrors ready to hang?
Our wall mirrors come with hanging hooks fitted or included. Wall anchors, fixings and mounting hardware are supplied by your installer to suit your wall type — and for large or heavy mirrors we recommend professional installation rather than hanging them yourself.

How long does delivery take?
Metropolitan Melbourne and Sydney — typically within 7 business days, with delivery cost calculated at checkout. Regional and interstate delivery is also available: standard shipping is calculated at checkout, and XL and XXL mirrors are bulky-goods items that can be quoted via accounts@elegantcollections.com.au before ordering.
