Dining Table Size Guide — How Many People Can Sit at Each Size?

120cm: Seats 4 comfortably. Ideal for apartments and compact dining rooms up to 3m × 3m.
150cm: Seats 4–6. The sweet spot for most Australian family homes.
180cm: Seats 6 comfortably, 8 at a squeeze. Requires at least a 3.5m × 4m dining area.
200cm+: Seats 8–10. Reserved for large dining rooms and open-plan spaces.
Round tables: A 120cm round seats 4; a 150cm round seats 5–6 comfortably.

Rule of thumb: allow 60cm of table width per person, and 90cm of clearance behind each chair.

Marble, Timber or Sintered Stone — Which Is Right for You?

Marble is the luxury benchmark — unique natural veining, requires sealing and regular care. Best for formal households comfortable with the maintenance commitment.

Sintered stone looks nearly identical to marble but is completely non-porous, scratch resistant, heat resistant and requires zero sealing. The best option for families who want the marble look without the maintenance.

Timber brings warmth and character that develops over time. Requires occasional oiling and protection from prolonged moisture. Best for coastal, Hamptons and warm-toned interiors.

Dining & Kitchen FAQs

The questions our showroom team gets asked most.

How many people can sit at a 180cm dining table?

A 180cm table seats 6 comfortably — 3 along each long side. For regular 8-person seating, consider a 200cm table.

What is the best dining table material for families?

Sintered stone — completely non-porous, scratch resistant, heat resistant and requires no sealing. Easiest luxury surface to maintain in a busy household.

How do I care for a marble dining table?

Seal every 6–12 months. Wipe spills immediately, especially acidic liquids. Use coasters and placemats. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner.

What chair height is compatible with a standard dining table?

Most Australian dining tables are 74–76cm high. Dining chairs with a seat height of 44–48cm work perfectly, giving 28–32cm of comfortable knee clearance.

Is dining furniture delivered assembled?

Dining tables are typically flat-packed — basic assembly required (attaching legs). Dining chairs usually arrive fully assembled. Instructions included with all pieces.

How long does dining furniture delivery take?

Metropolitan Melbourne and Sydney within 7 business days on most dining pieces. Regional Victoria and NSW within 160 km of our showrooms are delivered at our published Local Delivery rates — see our delivery rates. For other areas, please contact us for a freight quote.
