Coastal Planter - 3 Sizes Available

A round fibreglass planter in white and natural, made in three diameters from 21cm to 33cm.

Fibreglass keeps the wall thin and the weight down, so even the 33cm size can be lifted into position with a plant already in it — the practical difference between a pot you place once and one you move with the light.

White and natural together read as texture more than colour. Against limewashed walls, linen and pale oak the planter sits back and lets the foliage carry the corner; against a dark timber floor it becomes the light point in the room.

Which size for which plant

Start with proportion. On a compact, full plant the pot should account for roughly a third of the height you see — pot and foliage together — or it looks either perched or swallowed. On a tall slim tree, width does more work than height: the pot needs to read as though it could hold the root ball.

By size: the Large, 33cm across and 35cm high, carries a 180–200cm tree such as a kentia palm or an olive, standing on the floor beside a sofa or in the gap between a window and a bookcase. The Medium, 28cm across and 28cm high, is matched to a plant around 120cm — a peace lily, a ZZ plant, a young fiddle-leaf fig — on the floor or on a low bench. The Small, 21cm across and 25cm high, takes a 60–80cm plant: a fern, a maidenhair, a grouped set of succulents. It is the size for a console, a sideboard or a wide bathroom shelf. If you buy all three, the diameters step up more than the heights do, so they cluster rather than stagger — set the Large just behind the other two rather than in a straight line.

A note on the fibreglass

Fibreglass is a moulded composite and the colour sits on the surface rather than being fired into it. That is what allows the flat, unglazed-looking white — and it is also why a scourer or a solvent will dull the finish and a knock against a tiled edge can chip the rim. A soft damp cloth is all it should ever need. For the same reason we suggest leaving the plant in its nursery pot and dropping that inside, then lifting the whole thing out when you water.
