A bedside table is the piece you touch every day and notice least — until it matches the bed.

Our bedside tables are chosen to pair with the bed frames we sell. A fluted 2-drawer bedside table in black, white or gold detailing sits beside the fluted beds; a round bedside table with a marble top and two drawers suits the stone-and-timber bedrooms; a floating herringbone bedside table in messmate matches the herringbone dresser and tallboy; and the Hamptons white bedside table — available as a single or as a set of 2 — completes the coastal bedroom. Every bed side table here has drawer storage, so the surface stays clear for a lamp and a glass of water.

Black bedside tables ground a pale room; white bedside tables lift a dark one. Buy in pairs for symmetry, or a single wood bedside table on the side that gets the reading light.

Sizing a bedside table to the bed

The top of the bedside should sit level with the top of the mattress, or up to 5cm above it — for most Australian beds that is 55–65cm high. Width is set by the room: 45–55cm wide beside a queen, up to 60cm beside a king. Allow 5–10cm between the bedside and the bed frame so drawers open without catching the base. A floating bedside table fixed to the wall frees the floor for cleaning and suits smaller rooms.
