Getting the proportions right

A bedside table should sit level with the top of the mattress or up to 5cm above it, usually 55–65cm high. A dresser works best on the wall opposite or beside the bed with 80cm of clear floor in front so drawers open fully; a tallboy suits the narrow wall a dresser won't fit. Buy bedsides in pairs for a symmetrical room, or one on the side with the reading lamp.
